Someone once told me that we are not so much money poor as time poor in this country, and I find this statement to be true. We all know what it’s like to spend a precious Saturday or Sunday running errands – getting an oil change, going grocery shopping, taking the dog to the vet, and of course, wasting hours at the dreaded DMV. Luckily, the Department of Motor Vehicles understands our plight. It has added new features to its website meant to save you time and keep your from tearing out your hair in the waiting room.
New Website Features
The official DMV website offers new features that allow you to fill out information online, instead of wasting more time at the DMV filling out paperwork. You can now fill out your vehicle registration form online. By printing this out before you get to the DMV, you will save time by getting in line immediately. Even better, there is another feature that allows you to renew your license registration online, provided you meet some requirements. For example, you can’t have any delinquent taxes, outstanding tickets such as parking tickets, or a suspended license to register online. Your renewal notice will state if you are eligible for online renewal and give you a PIN number so that you can access the online registration.
But that’s not all! The DMV website has added another helpful feature – a page showing the live wait time at each DMV branch in your area. This wait-time log shows how many people are in line at a particular DMV location, what they are in line for, and an estimation of how long the line will last. With this nifty feature, you can check the wait time at the branches near you in order to determine the best branch to go to before you drive all the way to a particular location. In general, Tuesdays and Saturdays are the busiest days at the DMV, and Wednesdays and Fridays are the slowest, but now you can gain more accurate information concerning the traffic at a specific time before going to the DMV.
Your time is precious. The DMV has recognized that and is trying to help save you some stress and time. Hopefully, with these new features, heading to the DMV will be an easy item to check off your to-do list.
