Risk of Injury to a Minor

While this is not necessarily a crime that juveniles commit, it is a crime committed against children under the age of 18. This crime refers to a broad term, and can include the following situations:

  • Getting a DUI or some other driving offense with a child in the car.
  • Sexually abusing a minor.
  • Physically abusing a minor.
  • Being in possession of drugs when a child is in the house/car.
  • Domestic disputes that a child is exposed to.

Risk of injury to a minor is a serious crime. It can get prosecuted as anything up to a Class B felony. This means that you could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of up to $15,000. Additional consequences could include probation, loss of custody of children if you endanger your own kids, and more. This charge is oftentimes added to other charges in a situation. For example, you can be charged with a DUI and risk of injury to a minor, or domestic abuse and risk of injury to a minor.
